The Second Interdisciplinary International Conference: Gender in Science and Development took place at Aden University, Yemen on 12-14 December 2009.
The meeting, organized under the auspices of TWOWS and WRTC (Woman's Research and Training Centre), Aden University, was opened by the Yemeni Minister of Human Rights, Dr. Huda Alban, who applauded the efforts of these organizations in integrating women into science and ‘science for development’.
Some 70, mostly women, researchers from 12 Arab and other countries (Cuba, South Africa, Finland, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, India) attended the event. The meeting closed with a number of recommendations regarding women’s role in:
(iv) science and technology
(v) the economy and
The meeting also highlighted the importance of networking and collaboration between women scientists and women’s organizations in the Arab region.
